How To Prepare Apple Milkshake For Your Baby ?

Is your baby / kid fond of apples ? Recently I was chatting with my friend who is a new mom. One thing we always share is the baby food recipes . Her 8 month old baby girl doesn’t like apples just like Anshika.

Anshika is fond of apples , as it is raw. She hates skewed apple , even apple purée. But I didn’t want to give her raw apples because of the pesticides, wax and what not added to the apples in the market. Plus as apples are available all the year round, why couldn’t  I think of another way to make her eat them? So this delicious simple quick recipe became my savior. Apple Milkshake !

Apples should be steamed with the peel/ skin ON as 2/3 rd of fibre and antioxidants are contained within the peel. So apples should NOT be peeled before steaming.

Apples are rich in fiber, antioxidants, B complex vitamins and other nutrients. Milk is rich in calcium.

    Hi Sangeetha,

My baby drinks milk through bottle. Should i strain the apple milkshake nd give my kid. Bcz it wont come out of the bottle.

  2. Hi Sangeetha,

Firstly, I would have to say, your recipes are just awesome. My LO enjoys them. Personally in last two months I’ve learnt how to make recipes for my baby. I enjoy making them. I don’t have to think much, what to give next. Your hard work has really helped me a lot. Now my baby don’t want to eat cerelac 😛

I have one question, your eight months food chart mentions about shakes. In it, you say about using 1/2 cup milk. My question is which milk you are talking about?

    Thanks & Regards,

  3. Yr ideas of ckng r just mind blowing keep it up I would like to know sooji can be given to eight month old baby nd if yes hw

  4. Hi, Thanks for your recipes. I have a doubt, since there is wax n chemicals present on apple skin , wont that also get cooked along with the flesh ?

    • Hi Moss ,

Once we steam the apples , the chemicals present outside the apples skin wont get infused into the apple flesh. We peel the skin once its done and throw away the water too. So dont worry about steaming with skin on 🙂

  5. hi baby will turn 8 month the next week can i give her shakes in buffalo milk or diluted buffalo milk coz she hates formula milk..i use farex formula milk .. and she is a very fussy eater..hardly eats one or two spoons and then she z done she even is 700 gms less than the ideal weight to increase her apetite ? any suggestion?

    • Hi Afreen, buffalo milk at 8 months would be too hard for her tummy and digestive system. More over the iron in buffalo milk cant be absorbed by your baby as its too immmature . Can you pls consult a ped , change the formula or try to change the foods entirely. Fussy eaters need to be distracted alot while feeding 🙂 700 gms less than ideal weight is so normal Afreen ..dont worry . If she is active and happy pls dontw orry about weight at all

      • thnx dear u kno how it feels wen other aunties are like oh she z so thin etc etc anewez my doll is very active n happy thanks for the comforting words 🙂 🙂

  6. Hello Sangeeta,

Awesome information you have on your blog/website. Love all the recipies you’ve put out. Couple of questions I have:
    – is Kerala banana same as the raw banana we use in cooking?
    – can almond powder be stored in the fridge? To make it do we still have to soak almonds overnight? And ofcourse de-skin and grind them to a powder?

    Warmly, niyathi

    • Hi Niyathi,

Kerala banana is not raw banana used for cooking..its commonly found in Kerala / malayali stores
For making almond powder , dry roast almond with peel and take off the peel once roasted . Grind it to fine powder and store in an airtight container, yes can be stored in the fridge too provided its sealed properly.

      Hope this helps.

      • Hai sangeetha,
Can u tell me if roasted almonds can be peeled without soaking. Is it ok if i grind it with skin.

        • Once the almonds are roasted you can grate off the skin with a peeler and then grind to a fine powder and keep in an airtight bottle. Or else you can soak 4-5 almonds in water , deskin it and grind it into a fine paste. This paste can be blended along with the fruits while making milkshakes.

  8. Hi sangeetha,

Gudmorning!!thought of giving my sweetipie apple shake tday in the morning with some chngs….jus looking for ur approval if ths ok..firstly u said tht not to peel… wanted to ask if we steam with peel on thn do the fibre n antioxidants pass on to the apple as anyhow we peel the skin later on after boiling….i hope u got me??secondly u said pressure cook….how much water n no. Of whistles??? Thn can i blend it and use formula powder n water (2 ounce)for milk since she is 6 months old. Awaiting ur reply..thanks

    • Hi teena ..GM

As you said steaming apples with skin helps to retain the fibre content . More than half of the fiber found in apples is in the skin. But since the baby is too small and the apple skin cant be digested we have to peel it off once steamed 🙂 So by steaming we ensure the fibre content (soluble) is passed on to the flesh.

Pressure cook in a cup of water (300 ml-400ml) upto 3-4 whistles.. Blend it after peeling and deseeding. Prepare formula and at the end add the blended puree and mix well..
