3 Letfover dosa recipes for toddlers and kids:

Usually I end up with a small amount of dosa batter, which will not be sufficient for the next day tiffin or dinner.

Hence I try jiffy recipes with left over dosa batter and it always turns out to be a hit in the household. Especially my son likes them for his evening snack time.

Sharing with you the 3 leftover dosa batter recipes that can be made in a jiffy.

#1. Leftover dosa batter sandwich:

So if you have leftover dosa batter (not necessarily left over), some bread slices and looking for good evening tiffin, here you go.

Ingredients

  • Dosa batter – 1 cup
  • Any type of bread slices (brown or white) – a few
  • Onion – 1 chopped finely
  • Tomato – 1 or 2 chopped finely
  • Green chilies – 1 or 2, chop them in big pieces so that you can remove before giving to kids
  • Salt is already present in the batter, you can add a little more for the toppings
  • Hing – a pinch
  • Oil/Ghee/Butter – as required
  • Chopped coriander leaves (My son does not like them)

Method:

Mix the chopped onion, tomato and chilies to the batter. Add salt and hing as per your taste. You can add chili powder if not for kids.

Add chopped coriander leaves to this mixture. Heat the dosa tawa and grease it with oil or ghee or butter.

Take a bread slice, and if you want you can remove the sides.  Pour a ladle full of the mixed batter on top of the bread slice. Quickly flip the batter side on the tava, making sure not to splash the batter too much. Add oil or ghee on the sides to allow the batter to cook well and if you want more crispy sides

Now add a ladle full of batter on the top of the bread on tawa. Carefully flip the slice and add little oil or ghee for the other side.

Flip them more till the batter completely gets cooked. Serve with green chutney, or tomato ketchup. They even taste good as it is.

White bread tasted better.

Variations:

In a kadai, take a little oil, and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add green chilies. Let it fry and then add onion, fry for a minute. Finally add tomato and fry them a little. Add little salt and coriander leaves to this mixture. This can be cooled and added to the batter for more flavor.

#2. Leftover dosa batter fritters/ bhajji/ bhajiyas:

I once had a cup of little sour dosa batter. I was about to prepare bhajji for evening snacks.

I just added this sour dosa batter to the besan flour, with other ingredients and continued making bhajji. They turned out extremely crispy and gave a tangy taste too to the bhajji.

#3. Leftover dosa batter appams:

Dosa batter mixed with same ingredients as in first recipe can be poured in kuzhi aappam tava. The appams taste well with coconut or onion chutney or with idly dosa powder.

So, next time don’t through away that leftover batter.

  1. I always wish I can try some different recipes with dosa batter, not just leftover. I love these ideas, esp sandwich. I usually add some water and sprouted raagi flour to leftover batter, let it sit for an hour and then make dosas. That way, I can make a meal even if dosa batter is not enough

  2. you can add onions, greenchillies, pepper, cumin seeds, curry leaves in the dosa batter and make kuzhi paniyaram..This goes well with peanuts chutney..yummy..now i rememebr my mother for this dish…

  3. Interesting. I also end up with dosa batter very less to be sufficient for the next day.. this should work well.
