  6. Hi Sangeeta,

I gave half Kerela banana mash today to my 6.5 month old baby. While I steamed the entire banana, just wanted to know if the remaining half can be kept in fridge for use tomorrow or it has to b consumed the same day.

    • The remaining can be stored in an airtight box in the fridge for a day, make sure its steamed a bit before giving again. Better to give fresh as the remaining banana you can have for yourself.

    • Sheela, kerala banana might cause constipation in some babies, so I would suggest you to wait till 8 months to start with that. Meanwhile continue with your vegetable purees, soups, khichdis and anything you have started with. Once she reaches 8th month, start kerala banana porridge in the morning.

So this type of banana mash is ok for him?

only kerala banana is to be used or other variety plz help me

    • Ramya,

Usually kerala banana doesn’t make you cold or feverish. When steamed, it wont give you gas either. It can help in the weight gain if taken daily with ghee. Can you pls start and see how he is taking it. You can do a thing.

Peel and Cut bananas into thin slices. Heat ghee in a pan and add the slices. Once sauteed for 2- 3 minutes, add brown or unrefined sugar or jaggery to it. Once melted give it to him as snack. I hope he likes it 🙂 Try and let me know ..

Though doctors ask us to give fruits irrespective of season, I feel a bit hesitant to give golden bananas when my baby contracts cold, though I give kerala bananas alot during that time.

  17. Hi Sangeetha,

I have one doubt on the above receipe.. do we need to use Raw banan or ripe one. pls clarify.

  18. Thanks Sangeetha for ur reply. I am worried if cannot add this Kerala banana to her diet nor raw banana porridge for her . I have heard these are good for babies weight gain. Pls advice how can I add these bananas to her diet .

    • Hi Preethi,

You dont have to omit bananas completely from his diet .. Just take a break until he is relieved of constipation and then start. Make sure he is well hydrated and fed fruits like papaya on an everyday basis (2 pieces )and raisin soaked water or prunes juice.

  19. Hi Sangeetha ,

My baby is constipated . Can I give her this banana mash to relieve constipation. She is 6.5 months old now

  20. Bhagya Rajagopal on

Is it necessary to cook the banana before mashing. I usually give without cooking.

and also let me know if its necessary to remove the black lining inside.

    • Hi Bhagya ,

Yes its necessary to steam the kerala banana before giving it to babies as its difficult to digest for babies and might cause gas. Yes the black seeds inside has to be removed for babies less than 1 year old as it would be difficult for baby’s tummy . How old is your baby ?
