Mixed Vegetable Soup For Babies & Kids

mixed vegetable soup for babies

Almost all moms have one common complaint – My baby doesn’t eat vegetables, doesn’t like vegetable juice and when they grow up , veggies are a big NO NO except finger chips and packaged potato chips!! I have seen my cousins go through this phase, so I wanted to make sure that my baby loves veggies, be it in any form.

I started off with giving mixed vegetable soup in a clear liquid form to my baby in her 6th month. Those days I refrained from adding tomato to the soup as I felt the acidity of tomatoes could be a little tough on my baby’s tummy. So from 7th month, deseeded tomatoes were included in her mix veggie soup and I have mastered in the art of making delicious veggie soup  to which my lovely lady keeps opening her mouth for more and more.

How to make it? Simple, easy and could be made within minutes, and yes wholesome, healthy and nutritious that’s what I love about this soup. This hearty soup is rich in vitamins, minerals , rich antioxidants and loads of good dietary fibre and I am sure that your baby is gonna love it.  And yeah those brats who pick out veggies from their food, this soup is definitely for you.

Things Required

  • Carrot (Red /Orange )– half  a piece
  • Beetroot – 1/4 th of 1 beetroot
  • Radish (white ) – half a piece
  • Tomato – 1 big or 2 small tomatoes deseeded
  • Sweet pumpkin –  a small piece equal to the size of your thumb
  • Capsicum – 1 small piece
  • Bottle Gourd – a small piece
  • Cabbage – 2 leaves finely chopped
  • Cauliflower –  2 sprigs
  • Spinach leaves – 2-3
  • Green Peas – 1 peapod
  • Ghee – ½ tsp
  • Salt – a pinch (optional )
  • Water – 1/2 to 1 cup depending upon the vegetables used

 How to make this soup?

1.  Wash and peel the veggies , deseed tomatoes

2.  Take water in a pressure cooker and add ghee , veggies and salt

3.  Pressure cook for 2-3 whistles / till veggies are cooked.

4.  Leave it to cool for sometime . Blend it to a smooth puree consistency

Feed your baby with a little warmth.

Note:

  •  This soup in the form of clear water (sieved to get the clear water consistency) for 6 months + babies.
  • I started giving the soup without sieving post 7 months as she could chew the pureed and lumpy veggies with her teeth.
  •  Ghee can be also being added post pureeing.
  • Water used during boiling can be added for adjusting the consistency of the soup.
  • In the pic shown above , I have used carrot, pumpkin, bottle gourd , beetroot and tomatoes.

  11. Nice soup. I used to give veggie soups and vegetables in other forms to Aanya once she started solids and touch-wood she still loves her veggies.

    • Superb priya ..when they are small, if we get our kids get used to soups and other veggies , we wont have to deal with a veggie fussy eater ..thats what i learnt 🙂

  12. Samaira discovered texture very early and pureed food and soups were a big no-no for her. But she ate her veggies & meat and still does. Even now if we give her chicken soup she will look for chicken pieces and dump the soup. 🙂
