My Life As A Working Mom – Part 2

16

One question I am asked often is ” How is your life as a woking mom ? How do you manage it , tell us the schedule” . In my post here, I had written about what I go through on a day today basis as a working mom. I had flexible working hours till Anshika turned one. From July 2013, I resumed my normal working time. So now, it is a mix of 9 working hours at office and managing home , cooking, baby, hubby and other household chores.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THIS WORKING MOM

  • Wake up time – 5.30 AM
  • Takes a glass of warm water with half a lemon
  • Basic morning routine
  • Sterilising Anshika’s utensils, bottles , bowls  and cups
  • Preparing food for her . ( Daycare doesn’t provide food, so I have to prepare and pack everything from breakfast till evening snacks for her )
  • Packing the daycare bag
  • Taking bath
  • Preparing breakfast for us
  • Office hours . We take lunch from office canteen , though I plan to cook my lunch and take it to office
  • Evening walk from office to the nearby market from where I buy grocery
  • Back home
  • Cooking dinner for us
  • Bringing Anshika back from the daycare
  • Oil Massage and her bath
  • Giving her dinner
  • Washing her daycare tiffin boxes, bottles and utensils
  • Washing clothes
  • Cooking dinner for us
  • Family time with daughter and husband
  • Cleaning , sweeping
  • Bed time
Bliss !!!
How can I ever forget my hubby’s helping hand here ? He is such a sweetheart to lend me a helping hand be it taking care of Lali when I cook , or putting washed clothes for drying or even in washing utensils post dinner.

On weekends, I get up at 6.30 – 7.00 Am or as and when Anshika wakes up. My schedule remains the same , though there is no packing of food dabbas to her daycare.

As I write down this, I am thinking of my mom . Imagine , there were no diapers, wipes, daycares, washing machines or even instant foods then !! But still my Amma brought us up , 3 children managing our educational , financial and every other needs plus house hold chores too. Hats off to you Amma..

I am sure you might be thinking of your mom now.

Borrowing Alison Thomson’s lines :

Amma,

You may be treated like the maid,
you may be treated like the gardner,
you may be treated like the daycare,
you may be treated like the chauffer,
you may be treated like many things.
But one thing is for sure,
You will always be loved.
For a fathers work may be from sun up till sundown,
but a mothers work is never down.
And all that I have, am, and hope to be, I owe to you,
So this is for all the times I forgot to say THANK YOU!!

  1. hi sangeetha,my baby completed 6months now i am still breastfeeding ,can i take lemon-honey warm water for weightloss.

  2. I know how tough it is since I am in the same boat, but at the same time, it gives me a deep sense of accomplishment at the end of the day!

  3. I am considering going back to work, and the main thing bothering me is the logistics of managing my home – cooking, cleaning, laundry along with my blog!! I recently gave up a post because it would keep me away from home for about 12 hours – anyway this will be really helpful for when the time comes 🙂

    • Hi Fab,

12 hours away from home , its a bit difficult … My case , i go to office at 8.30 AM and is back at 8.30 PM ,these days as my project is critically high. I have to get up early , cook for us , Anshikas daycare , get ready and rush . Evening the same routine . After some days I dare to say that its not working for me working late as I have a daughter whose care is most important to me . Other household chores can be postponed , but our children is most important . If you get a job , make sure you openly speak up about your requirements . If they are OK , join and try to balance both of the spheres. Initially it would be difficult , but slowly things start falling in place.

  4. Hi Sangeetha
Kudos to you for this awesome website. I so so much relate to u as a working mom juggling between work and home. My angel is 8 months now. Just like u, I am still BF her. Now, my office is shifting a bit far away and I cannot come home frequently as I used to. SO, can you tell me how u used to extract BM for your daughter. u used a pump? If yes, which one? Is it good? Till now, I didn’t give a thought to that, since I could come home. But now, I need you advise.

    • Hi Priya, welcome to Bumps n Baby. For sure I will write a post on expressing BM, storing and feeding it. I use medela mini electric starter pack , which is very good. Will wtite a review on that as well 🙂 Loads of love to your angel..

  5. Oh lord..how am supposed to manage aftera baby..Just thinking of it gave me jitters.Kudos to you for being a superwomen & supermom.

  6. Congrats on having a well set out routine, Sangeetha!! Apparently such routines help kids in having a secure and disciplined childhood. Hats off to you for maintaining everything so well!

  7. Well this one article made me literally cry as it reminded me of our childhood days and how our mom took care of us to make us what we are today, Thanks for writing it so heart touching article , but i felt it so deeply my sister

  8. A tough call it is to be working after you have a baby. I myself am a mother of two and I'm glad I chose to work too. Many a times I do feel guilty, but then this way I'm able to do justice to my desires too. A well-laid out schedule you have. Trouble starts if you plan to have the second one soon. 🙂
