Before we dive into the list of healthy chocolate recipes for kids, let me tell you that you don’t have to be guilty of being a chocolate lover. As opposed to the popular belief, actually chocolates are good if taken in the right amount.

So, today I have brought to you the different kid-friendly chocolate recipes which can be easily prepared at home. 

1. Chocolate Cake

Hearing the word “chocolate recipe”, the recipe that first comes to anyone’s mind is- chocolate cake. So here is an easy chocolate cake recipe that your children will love.

Ingredients

  • All purpose flour- 1 cup
  • Powdered sugar- 1 cup
  • Cocoa-powder- 3/4th cup
  • Eggs- 2
  • Milk- 125 ml
  • Butter- approximately 70 gm
  • Baking soda- ½ teaspoon
  • Baking powder- ½ teaspoon
  • Vanilla essence- 3-4 drops

Instructions

  • Add all purpose flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda and baking powder in a container. Stir until mixed well.
  • Now, add eggs, milk, butter and vanilla essence to another container. Stir well.
  • Add the flour mix to the eggs mix and keep stirring till you get smooth batter. 
  • Distribute this cake mixture to the greased and floured pan. 
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven.
  • Check the center with the toothpick to see if it is done.
  • You can decorate with chocolate buttercream frosting and chocolate chips. 
  • Serve it after it cools down.

Note: You can also make the cup-cakes using the same ingredients. Use cup cake mould in step 4. Then follow the same steps.

2.Chocolate semolina cake

Chocolate semolina cake is one of the easiest chocolate recipes for kids that I will recommend for you.

Replacing maida in normal cake with semolina itself gives this cake a different taste and texture that your kids will love. Plus this recipe is perfect for vegetarians as this recipe doesn’t use eggs.

3.Chocolate Fudge

Nothing can treat you better than a chocolate fudge on a stressful day. Make this yummy treat that your kids would love to have anytime.

Ingredients

  • Vanilla essence- 1 teaspoon 
  • Condensed milk- about 400 ml
  • Chocolate- 2 cups

Instructions

  • Grease a pan and keep aside.
  • Put condensed milk, vanilla essence and chocolate in a micro safe bowl and heat for 1 minute.
  • Stir well till the chocolate melts and microwave for another minute.
  • Pour it in a pan. You can decorate with nut powder or milk chocolate shavings.
  •  Refrigerate for 4 hours.
  • Cut into pieces and store them in the fridge or at room temperature. 


4. Hot chocolate recipe

Whatever the weather be, a good tall glass of hot chocolate can add charm to the day. For this heavenly hot chocolate drink the main ingredients you will need are milk, cocoa powder, chocolate bars, honey and vanilla essence.

5.Choco-chip Cookies

Very easy to make and loved by all, choco-chip cookies are one of the most loved chocolate recipes for kids.

Ingredients

  • All purpose flour- 3 cups
  • Butter- 200 grams
  • Powdered sugar- 2 and a half cup
  • Choco chips- 2 cups
  • Vanilla essence- 1 teaspoon
  • Eggs-2
  • Salt- 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  • Mix well butter, vanilla essence and sugar in a bowl.
  • Add eggs, flour and salt to it. Mix well the ingredients.
  • Now, add choco chips.
  • Grease a tray. Make small balls of the mixture, press little to flatten a bit and arrange them leaving a little space between them.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes. Let them cool down at the room temperature before serving.

6. Chocolate and Peanut Butter Cookies

Can’t imagine a healthy chocolate recipe? Anything better than chocolate and peanut butter cookies? Let’s try.

Ingredients

  • Peanut butter- 1/2 cup
  • All purpose flour- 1 cup
  • Powdered sugar or brown sugar- 1 cup
  • Milk- 3 teaspoons
  • Sunflower oil- 1/4th cup
  • Cocoa powder-1/2 cup
  • Vanilla extract- 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  • Combine sugar, peanut butter, milk and vanilla extract in a bowl. Stir well or blend till combined well.
  •  Add oil and blend the mixture again.
  • Now, add flour, cocoa, salt and baking soda to the mixture. Blend well until you get a creamy mixture.
  • Drop the small balls of mixture on a greased plate. Flatten the mixture slightly.
  • Bake till the cookies are turn brown or are done.
  • Let the cookies cool in the tray at the room temperature.
  • Remove the cookies from the tray and store them in a cookie jar.

7. Chocolate Halwa

Classic halwa is prepared in almost all the Indian homes. Chocolate halwa is a little twist in the classic recipe.

Ingredients

  • Suji- 1 cup
  • Cocoa powder- 1/3rd cup
  • Ghee-1/2 cup
  • Sugar -1 cup
  • Crushed cardamom- 1 or 2
  • Milk- 2 cups

Instructions

  • Add ghee to a pan. Let it heat for a few seconds on a medium heat and add suji to it. Cook until a nice smell emits out of it.
  • Add cocoa powder and sugar to the mixture, stirring continuously. Allow it to cook for a few more minutes.
  • Now add milk and stir the mixture continuously till it has the halwa like consistency. 
  • Now, remove it from heat. Add cardamom powder to it and serve.

8. Healthy calcium rich chocolate smoothie

Now smoothies are my go to energy boosting recipes. Here is the recipe for a calcium rich chocolate smoothie your kids will love.

Ingredients

  • White sesame- 2 table spoons
  • Seedless dates-4-5
  • Almonds – 4-5
  • Milk- 1 cup
  • Chocolate bar- 1 large
  • Sugar- 2 teaspoons

Instructions

  • Soak sesame, dates and almonds in water overnight. 
  • Drain the excess water and grind them with milk, sugar and chocolate bar.
  • The healthy calcium rich chocolate smoothie is ready.
  • Top with fresh cream and decorate with chocolate pieces and serve.

Note: Milk is optional. The smoothie can be prepared using the remaining ingredients also in water if you want to go vegan.

9. Choco Chip Muffins

Choco- chip muffins are a crunchy twist to the classic muffin recipe.

Ingredients

  • All purpose flour- 1 cup
  • Dark chocolate chips- 1 cup
  • Powdered sugar- 3/4th  cup
  • Vanilla extract- 1 teaspoon
  • Milk- 1/2 cup
  • Butter-1/3rd cup
  • Eggs-2

Instructions

  • Take all purpose flour, choco chips, sugar in a bowl and mix well. 
  • Then, add a lightly beaten egg, butter, milk, and vanilla extract to the mixture. S
  • Stir the mixture well to smooth consistency.
  • Grease the muffin cases and fill the mixture to the cases.
  • Bake these in the pre-heated oven for about 20 minutes.
  • Allow the muffins to cool down and then remove from the cases. Pour chocolate sauce over them while serving.

10. Chocolate Barfi

Be it Diwali, New year, Rakhi or any other Indian festivals- chocolate barfi is the kids’ most favourite Indian chocolate sweet. Let’s see how to make this.

Ingredients

  • All purpose flour- 1 cup
  • Cocoa Powder-2 table spoons
  • Ghee-1/2 cup
  • Sugar-1 cup
  • Water- as required.

Instructions

  • Take a pan and add ghee to it. Let it heat for a few seconds and then add the flour to it. 
  • Stir it for a few minutes and then add cocoa powder and sugar to it. Stir for some time.
  • Add water to the mixture. Keep stirring and allow it to cook to attain a good consistency. 
  • Turn the flame off once the thick consistency is reached.
  • Pour this mixture on a tray and allow it to set for some time. 
  • Cut it into square pieces after cooling down.

11. Chocolate Rasgulla

Attention rasgulla lovers! This recipe is a must try for the rasgulla lovers and the ones who love to experiment in the kitchen.

Ingredients 

  • Milk- 1 liter
  • Dark chocolate- 1 bar
  • Lemon- 1 or as required
  • Cashew Nuts- a few
  • Sugar- 2 cups
  • Water-2 cups

Instructions

  • Take a pan and add milk to it. Boil the mixture and add lemon juice to it so that the milk curdles.
  • Squeeze the milk (cottage cheese) inside a muslin cloth. Now keep this cottage cheese cloth pack in a container with a weight over it for 15-20 minutes.
  • Now, remove the weight and collect the cottage cheese. Knead it to make it into a smooth dough and roll balls from it.
  • Take another pan. Add water and sugar to it. Bring the mixture to boil to make sugar syrup of thick consistency. 
  • Place the balls in it and let it cook at medium heat for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Once the balls change the colour a bit and soak in all the sugar syrup, turn the flame off.
  • Melt the chocolate bars. Dip the rasgullas in melted chocolate before serving.

12. Ragi cake with chocolate sauce

A power packed recipe with goodness of ragi and chocolate that your kids can’t resist, this recipe is a must try. Ragi itself is healthy and including it your kid’s menu has immense health benefits. And if your child is not so a big fan of ragi, then you can try this recipe. 

Added with the goodness of chocolate sauce, this ragi cake is a healthier version to any maida cake.

13. Chocolate modak

A yummy dessert which requires no cooking, this chocolate modak recipe will curb your chocolate cravings in no time. This is a quick chocolate snack you can make with your kiddo as it is no fire cooking.

14.Chocolate banana pops

Cut firm ripe bananas into halves and insert skewers into each. Place this inside the fridge for about 1 hour. Now melt good quality dark chocolate. Dip the banana pops in the melted chocolate. You can add crushed nuts or sprinkles to the melted chocolate. Keep it in the refrigerator till it is firm. Your chocolate banana pops are ready. And here goes a homemade chocolate recipe.Heat butter to melt it. To the melted butter add in cocoa powder, sugar and milk powder. Mix well till everything is blended well. Pour the batter into the moulds and freeze it for 1 hour. Enjoy your chocolate  bar.
