9 Healthy Evening Snacks for Working Moms

4

A working mom’s life is jam packed I know very well. So where is the time to think of healthy eating? When I was working, I had the hunger to even eat an elephant when 3 PM creeps in everyday. Our office canteen displayed various fancy tasty wafers and potato chips packets at the counter. They used to have other snacks too like cutlets, chats and deep fried items like samosa. But if you want to be fit and don’t wish to indulge in this junk world, you ought to eat healthy. Today in this post I will be writing about 9 healthy evening snacks for working moms.

Nutritious Evening Snacks for Working Moms:

1. FRUITS

Fruits are easier to carry in your office bag. An apple, an orange, a banana, a pear, a guava or even a small bunch of grapes are far better than the deep fried snacks isn’t ? Make sure you keep the fruit in your bag the night before so that you don’t forget.

So when the fake hunger hits you at 3pm, go grab, wash and have the fruit instead.

2. DRY FRUITS

Dry fruits are the best evening snacks for me. A handful of almonds, dates, raisins, walnuts and figs make my evening snack special and nutritious. I love the nuttiness in my snacks and the healthy oils I get from these nuts.

You can opt in for roasted almonds with cinnamon or roasted dry fruits in salt if you can’t have it bland.

3. DHOKLA

I guess this was a savior for me in canteen. Dhokla made from rava is steamed usually and hence a healthier choice.  2 pieces of dhokla with mint chutney makes your evening snack special and healthy.

4. VEGETABLE SANDWICHES

I am sure your office canteen serves sandwiches. Omit the potato, beetroot and butter in the sandwiches you have. A healthy, hearty evening snack is ready.

Those working moms who care for calories, replace the preservative laden tomato ketchup with mint chutney and white bread with brown.

5. RAVA UPMA

Again a healthy evening snack. If possible go for vegetable upma as the goodness of vegetables would provide fibre while filling you up.

6. ROASTED CHANA

Have a handful of roasted chickpeas or chana handy. Whenever you can’t find the healthier options in office canteen, go grab your box of roasted chana.

7. KHAKHRA

I am sure your office canteen has piles of various khakras stocked up. Opt in for the oil free plain methi khakhras if possible. A wonderful evening snack for you with the goodness of atta and fenugreek leaves.

8. HEALTHY BHEL/ PUFFED RICE / KURMURA

Your canteen serves chat isn’t ? Why don’t you order in a plate of sukha bhel / dry puffed rice ? Make sure that you omit the fried sev but add roasted chana, cut onions, tomato and seasonings instead along with the puffed rice.

9. POHA

Poha also known as aval/ flattened rice is an excellent evening dish. You can have it as it is or in the form of upma .

  3. I used to like having boiled corn salad or sprouted green moong salad when I used to work. Now that I have a Baby I’m a full time mommy 🙂
