Ragi Idli

  • Ragi flour -1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons
  • Urad whole -1/4 cup
  • Poha/aval -1/4 cup
  • Baking soda -a pinch
  • Grated carrot – 1(optional)
  • Salt - to taste
  1. Wash and soak whole urad dal in drinking water for 8 hours.
  2. Wash and soak aval/ flattened rice/ beaten rice in drinking water for 3 hours.
  3. After soaking it for the required amount of time, grind urad dal in mixie or grinder with water used for soaking.
  4. Add in aval to this and grind.
  5. Take ragi flour in a vessel and add water to make it a paste.
  6. Pour aval-urad dal batter to this and mix everything well with sufficient salt.
  7. Cover it and let it ferment overnight.
  8. In the morning, add a pinch of baking soda to this batter and add any grated vegetable of your choice if needed.
  9. Coat idli moulds with oil. Pour a spoon full of the batter to the iddli mould.
  10. Cook idli in idli cooker for 10 -15 minutes
