Steamed Modak or Ukadiche Modak

  • Rice flour - 1 cup
  • Jaggery - ¾ cup
  • Coconut - 1 cup
  • Elaichi powder – a pinch
  • Water - for kneading the dough
  • Oil - as needed
  • Salt - to taste
  1. Heat a pan with oil or ghee. Add coconut, jaggery and mix well on low flame.
  2. Add in cardamom powder.
  3. Let the jaggery melt and keep stirring till the mixture turns dry. Let it cool down
  4. Boil water in a pan and add the rice flour. Let the rice flour absorb all the water. Switch off the flame.
  5. Grease oil on your hands and knead the dough soft without any lumps. You can also add water to moisturize the dough if its dry.
  6. The dough should be soft without any lumps
  7. Make small balls out of the dough and flatten it. Place the filling in the centre
  8. Using the modak mould or using your fingers give shape to the modak
  9. Steam these modaks for 10 to 15 minutes on a low flame.
